AmeriCorps is a one-year community service opportunity for anyone who is at least 17 years of age and can benefit from an EDUCATION AWARD for education costs or to pay qualified student loans.
AmeriCorps members who complete a year of service earn an AmeriCorps Education Award of $4,725 to pay for college, graduate school, or to pay back qualified student loans. Members who serve part-time receive a partial award. AmeriCorps members also receive a modest living allowance (paycheck) during their term of service.

HOPE THROUGH HOUSING FOUNDATION – Vision After-School Program
Full-time Service Opportunity
Working in learning centers, within affordable housing apartment communities, located in Escondido and San Marcos AmeriCorps members serve as tutors, role models and mentors for youth in K-12th grade. AmeriCorps members provide homework assistance, subject area tutoring, English language acquisition. AmeriCorps members also provide recreational activities, life skills trainings, computer literacy workshops, field trips, structured community service activities, and career readiness/awareness activities.
ESCONDIDO UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT – Valley High School
Full-time Service Opportunity
Working in Valley High School in Escondido, the district's continuation school, AmeriCorps members tutor high school students on a one-to-one basis and assist in classroom/group setting to help students in passing the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) and meeting graduation requirements.

After-School Challenge Program
Part-time Service Opportunity
AmeriCorps Members placed at the Salvation Army's After School Challenge work with middle school and high school students referred to the "Challenge" by schools and law enforcement agencies. These students are offered prevention education workshops and/or services to encourage healthy lifestyle choices. This program also provides students the opportunity to perform court-ordered community service in a positive and supportive environment. AmeriCorps members also assist students with their academic needs.
COMMUNITY RESOURCE TEAM –
Youth and Adult Volunteerism
Full-time Service Opportunity
The Community Resource Team (CRT) members work to create a shared vision of a stronger community through direct service, effective citizen action and youth/adult volunteerism. These AmeriCorps members develop, implement and supervise community service events for youth and adult volunteers and also provide support to local neighborhood groups. Youth volunteer activities are offered through COMPACT’s Helping Hands Teen Service Club. Adult volunteer activities and community outreach is offered through the City of Escondido’s Housing and Neighborhood Services.
