There are four career pathways offered through Escondido Education COMPACT, the pathways are healthcare, automotive, retail and manufacturing, and first-time work experience.
Healthcare Career Pathway – CNA Program
Pre-requisite: Health Care Essentials or Health Care Fundamentals Class
A free program available to high school students interested in pursuing a career in healthcare. Focuses on Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and Home Health Aid (HHA) certifications and includes a yearlong course, case management and an externship opportunity with assistance in placement for permanent employment. Classes take place at Orange Glen, Escondido, and San Pasqual High School, but are open to all high school students in Escondido.
Automotive Career Pathway
The automotive technology class is offered after school at Escondido High School and Orange Glen High School. Students earn 5 elective credits per semester. This class offers both classroom instruction and real world hands-on training. Students are connected to entry level permanent employment upon successful completion of this class. A case manager is assigned to assist the youth. A potential paid internship in the automotive industry is also available with the assistance of the vocational counselor.
NCYCN Bike Program – Youth have the opportunity to learn about mechanics by working directly on used bicycles. By the end of the program, youth have gained skills for general mechanics, having stripped and rebuilt their own bicycle.
